EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure and Holder Construction celebrated a significant milestone with the topping-out ceremony for the PH02 data center in Mesa. This impressive 868,000-square-foot facility is part of a cutting-edge 3.1-million-square-foot campus that will deliver 450 MW of IT load upon completion. DC Deployed is proud to have played a pivotal role as the owner’s representative and construction manager, collaborating closely with EdgeCore and Holder Construction to bring this visionary project to life.

“This area has seen remarkable transformations,” noted Jack Sellers, former chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. “As the former facilities manager for the 5,000-acre General Motors Desert Proving Grounds, I am thrilled to see this land gain a second life as a vital part of our economic development. Projects like this help us meet the challenges of rapid growth and shape our region’s future.”

The rapid advancement of technology continues to fuel the demand for state-of-the-art data centers. Bill Jabjiniak, senior vice president for national community engagement at EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure, likens the reliability of data centers to everyday utilities. “When you turn on the faucet, you expect water. Similarly, people now expect seamless internet access. Greater Phoenix is becoming the AI hub of the West, and facilities like this are central to that transformation.”

EdgeCore’s CEO, Lee Kestler, emphasized the Mesa campus’s importance as a flagship project. “Our initial plans were modest, but input from customers, supply chain partners, and the construction field led us to expand the scope significantly. It’s a case of ‘go big or go home,’ and we’re thrilled with the outcome.”

The company’s commitment to community engagement is evident through its efforts to hire local construction workers and prioritize water conservation. Utilizing air-cooled chilling technology, the facility uses less water than 10 residential homes—a critical consideration in a desert environment.

“When the data center boom began, many worried about increased resource consumption,” Sellers added. “EdgeCore’s innovative solutions demonstrate how industry and community can work together to overcome these concerns.”

Reliable energy access remains a cornerstone for data center operations. Kevin Thompson, a member of the Arizona Corporation Commission, highlighted the state’s robust energy infrastructure. “In 2024, Arizona’s utilities achieved a record peak demand of 8,219 MW, surpassing 2023’s record while maintaining uninterrupted service. Companies like EdgeCore depend on this reliability to support emerging technologies such as AI and autonomous vehicles, driving the need for continued investments in energy generation and transmission.”

DC Deployed is honored to be part of this transformative journey with EdgeCore and Holder Construction. Together, we’re shaping a future where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, positioning Mesa as a leader in the digital infrastructure space.
